Dark Matters Exhibition

During our know how week I decided to visit the  Whitworth Art Gallery to explore the Dark Matters exhibition, which unexpectedly turned out to be a most useful starting point for my new project. The exhibition had a repapering contrast of a dark and sinister mood, battling against one of beauty and innocent s.

The "Still Life No.1" piece shown here, by Brass Art is a prime example as the ghostly shadows of beautiful glass sculptures are reflected onto the walls of a darken gallery space.

Another piece that caught my interest was Barnby Hosking’s “Thoughts”, composing of brass butterflies. The wings of the butterflies consist of a reflective top surface against a darkened bottom surface and are intended to reflect  the contrast of both the  positive and negative elements of thoughts.
