Illustrator, My Thing?

As much as adore how great photoshop is i've always found it hard to work with. So I was very please to find that i could take to illustrstor much better. I find it much easier to translate my drawings onto the screen and for some reason it just seems a lot more rational then photoshop does.So perhaps illustrator might just be my thing.

Why Aren't They Teaching Society In Schools?

Recently in the news there has been a lot about the legalisation of gay marriage in England and Wales, and weather the topic should be disused in our schools. This is a controversial topic which raises questions about what should be taught in our national curriculum, although traditionally this consisted of English, Maths and Science society has moved on. And if children are being educated about our society and sexual education then surely they should be getting taught about equality.

New Year; New Start. Maybe?

The Locating Unit takes us into the new year and althought it brings a fresh start, I couldn’t help holding on to odd things. I decided to stick with the gender/ steyotyping theme but like new year I gave it a different direction. Returning home for the holiday I found myself being awoken at five o’clock on christmas morning to overexcited four year old nephew, helpping him open numerous presents from santa all of which where unsurprisingly aimed at little boys. Whatching his excitement at playing with all of them gave me inspriation to start drawing these toys. Thiny small objects that get used in such a light-hearted pastime manage to somehow set the foundations of our gender roles in society. Clearly nobody thinks about the effects of a little boy playing with a toy gun or a small girl playing with a plastic barbie could have on their future's.

From my initial drawing's of toy's i began thinking about steyotypes of hobbies, leading to drawing animal's. I then had the idea to combine these these thing's. Barbies with dinosaur's, dinosaur's with unicorns, fish with hourse's. So now i'm starting to create a whole family made up of surreal mystical creatures.

End of Unit X

Unit X has given me an exciting chance to collaborate with others and embrace a whole load of ideas. For the project we worked in groups giving us important experience for our later careers. Along with six other fellow textile students, we made up Wearing it- group 4 or as we like to call ourselves G4! As a group we worked brilliantly; contributing our ideas to each other, going on group trips; holding group drawing and pin up sessions and putting together a final exhibition we worked great as a group for the duration of our project. Unit X has taught me all about collaboration and teamwork skills of which I feel I will greatly benefit from in my future. Although I do feel we planned our time well I do also think there could be room for improvement as I found myself not having enough time to produce everything I had intend to. I feel our final exhibition was a huge success and I’m very proud that we managed to put it together ourselves. Perhaps we should had spent more time on our final video with the editing process however I feel this was down to us underestimating how long this would take us, as well as us simply not having enough video time to allow us to get everything we wanted into our five minute slot.

My Exhibtion Space

For my personal exhibition space I chose a corner framed by some lockers, I like the complete contrast of the persistent white draping fabric against the ruff and hardness of the locker blocks. As a group, we easily divided up the spaces to truly maximise our exhibition space as a whole.
